Jumpthegap® - Roca International Design Contest

For almost 20 years, Roca organised jumpthegap®, an international design competition aimed at inspiring the creativity and talent of design and architecture students and professionals.

In collaboration with the Barcelona Design Centre, this competition fostered creativity and talent through a futuristic, multidisciplinary, and intercultural vision. Participants were initially tasked with designing the ‘Bathroom of the Future’, with a focus on technology and innovative materials.

As time passed, however, it became clear that sustainability is crucial for the future. Therefore, participants were encouraged to apply these technological and innovative solutions to create a sustainable society. In the last edition of jumpthegap®, the competition evolved to address the challenges outlined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The jury consisted of internationally renowned architects and designers, including Shigeru Ban, Benedetta Tagliabue, Patrik Schumacher, Ma Yansong, Carlo Ratti, Valentin Vodev and Marcelo Rosenbaum, as well as industry experts and representatives from global organisations such as the United Nations. They played a key role in evaluating the ideas and solutions presented in the competition.
