- The discussion will be held on February 21, at Expo Bath Sofia, featuring designer Valentin Vodev, a member of the international jury of jumpthegap, the contest for young designers. He also will present the opportunities for participating the contest.
- The event is from the series of meetings of young professionals and entrants artists with renowned professionals from the fields of design and architecture, organized within jumpthegap international contest.
- The seventh edition of jumpthegap, one of the most prestigious design competitions, was launched in late 2016 and is open to young professionals and students of architecture from around the world, and the prizes amounts to 26,000 euro, a record of all previous editions.
The first ‘jumpthegap talk’ session will be held at the exhibition hall of Roca in Sofia, on 21stFebruary. The topic is ‘Innovation is required: Opportunities provided by design and architecture to solve people´s real needs.’
The initiative‘jumpthegap talk’ offers series of meetings with renowned professionals in the field of design and architecture to present their professional experience and vision. Discussions are held in different cities around the world as part of the international design competition jumpthegap. The idea of meetings is to explain in detail the rules and provide guidance to young talents who wants to participate in the seventh edition of jumpthegap. The competition for young designers is organized by Roca, a company that celebrates its centenary, with the collaboration of BCD Barcelona Centre of Design.
For the meeting in Sofia, from Vienna will arrive Valentin Vodev, designer and founder of VELLOcompany. He is a member of the international jury of the seventh edition of jumpthegap.
Valentin Vodev was born in Sofia. He holds a Master's degree from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and from the Royal College of Art in London. He lives in Vienna, where he established his own studio. His unique design solutions in the field of commodity products, transportation products, furniture and public spaces design are a combination of innovation and applied logic.He received numerous awards and honours including: the Red Dot Award (2015, 2009), winner of the International Bicycle Design Competition (2012,2010,2007), Merit Award / Incheon International Design Prize for green design (2009). In 2013, he founded the company VELLO bike, which specializes in the manufacturing and retail of bicycles and other mobility innovative products.
The discussion‘Innovation is required: Opportunities provided by design and architecture to solve people´s real needs’, organized within the seventh edition of the international competition for young designers jumpthegap, in Sofia is open to all who wants to share their opinion, to share experiences or to learn more about the contest.Moderator of the event will be Dr.Eng.Sofia Angelova, Professor of Ergonomics at Engineering Design Department of Technical University of Sofia.
Valentin Vodev will participate in a discussion on the topic, which will be held on 22nd February at the University of Architecture in Bucharest, Romania too.
The next meeting of the series will be held on 23rd February in Barcelona, Spain (Barcelona Roca Gallery). Participation in the round table will take other three members of the jury - Benedetta Tagliabue, architect and director of the Estudio Miralles Tagliabue EMBT; Isabel Roig, director of the BCD; and Josep Congost, design and innovation director at Roca, who will be joined by Joan Vinyets, designer and anthropologist.
