“Meaningful innovation: Opportunities provided by design and architecture to solve people’s real needs” – Josep Congost, Isabel Roig, Joan Vinyets & Benedetta Tagliabue.

The main topic of this first session of the jumpthegap®(talk) was about innovating with sense and the opportunities that design and architecture provide to solve people’s real needs, the future challenges that architecture and design will have to face, and the new areas where these disciplines will act.  

Three members of the 7th edition of the international design contest jumpthegap® led the session and Joan Vinyets joined it.  

Josep Congost

He has been working with Roca Sanitario S.A. since 1997 and he is currently Design and Innovation Director. 

From 1981 to 1989 he was a founding partner and Chairman of the Management Board at Ecotécnica S. Coop, and from 1989 and 1997, he worked as Director of Vehicle Design for the Nissan European Technology Center of Barcelona (NETC-B).

 

Isabel Roig

Isabel has been the General Director of BCD Barcelona Design Center since 2000. 

She founded the Barcelona Design Week in 2006. She has been a member of Junta Europea de Especialistas de Diseño, appointed by the European Commission, and President of BEDA (Bureau of European Design Associations). 

 

 

Benedetta Tagliabue

She currently serves as director of EMBT Miralles Tagliabue, founded in 1994, in collaboration with Enric Miralles, based in Barcelona and, since 2010, in Shanghai. She is also the director of the Enric Miralles Foundation. 

Benedetta was the president of the second edition of jumpthegap®. She has been a Visiting Professor at Harvard, Columbia and Barcelona ETSAB Universities and in 2004 she received an Honorary Doctorate from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Napier University in Edinburgh, Scotland. She has taken part as jury in relevant international competitions, such as the Príncipe de Asturias Pizes and Pritzker Prize.

Joan Vinyets

Innovation consultant, researcher, designer, anthropologist, professor and public speaker with more than 25 years of extensive international experience in design, consulting and training aimed at improving user experiences through a people-centered innovation and design focused approach.  

He has been one of the pioneers in Europe in the application of the combination of methods of business anthropology and design thinking for companies and organizations.

He also collaborates as an advisor for advertising agencies, marketing, market research, innovation and design to help his teams think differently about consumers, products and brands.
