"Innovation is required: Opportunities provided by design and architecture to solve people´s real needs" - Valentin Vodev & Sofia Anguelova
The jumpthegap®(talk) took place at Expo Bath Sophia. Vodev shared his own experience as a designer having participated in a numerous design contests around the world. He described the way his own success and achievements lead him forward step by step. He also shared some of his own sources of inspiration and his vision for the innovations that help people solve real life problems and improve the environment.
Valentin Vodev was a jury member of the 7th edition of the jumpthegap®.
For him converting ideas into products is a metamorphosis from the common to the unexplored – a discovery through which he can define new functions and forms. Design can be used everywhere - from the modeling.
He holds a Master's degree from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (Mag. art. Industrial Design) and from the Royal College of Art in London (MA RCA in Design Products).
Vodev received the Red Dot: Best of the Best (2015), three-time winner of the International Bicycle Design Competition/Taiwan (2007, 2010, 2012), Austrian Climate Change Prize (2011) nomination, Global finalist for the James Dyson Award (2010), Red Dot Concept Award Winner/ category mobility (2009), Finalist Helen Hamlyn Design Award /UK (2009), Merit Award/Incheon International Design Prize in the category‚ green design / Korea (2009).
In 2013 he founded Vodev Studio which focus on the development of products in the area of transportation, furniture, lighting design and interiors. Some of his clients include Absolut Vodka, Barbican Art Centre, BASF, Conform, Mothercare, Tetra Pak, Villeroy & Boch, Vienna Insurance Group.
Sofia Anguelova is Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Engineering Design, and Technical University of Sofia, Bulgaria.
Lecturer in Ergonomics, UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Visualization, also a devoted crafter, often involved as consultant /mentor in art projects and other kind of events with Design students.
Her background is in Computer sciences, Ergonomics and Design, with her PhD in Human-Computer Interaction and Information Visualization.
Sofia is co-founder of IDLab, applied science laboratory for design, modeling and prototyping (http://design.tu-sofia.bg/id-lab ).
Over the years, she gathered knowledge in the field of design philosophy, graphic and UI design. Sofia has experience in modeling, designing and evaluating different design products, including user interfaces. Her research work is focused on the relationship between information understandability and different interface layouts, color schemes, metaphors and information visualizations. Sofia’s current research interests in modeling and evaluating human-product interaction for different design products and interactive systems and the effect they have on human experience.
